Okay - I'm going to alter an admission. I watched a clump of bad movies when I was a kid. Who am I kidding? I comfort like quite a few bad movies. But many of the movies I watched when I was a kid were real bad and I would watch them over and over again. My approaching birthday was making me a bit nostalgic earlier in the month. As a result. I thought I would pick up a film or two from my childhood. My first choice was the Christian Slater classic. I thought I would choose it up check it and maybe blog about how come up (or not so well) the movie holds up over time. The problem is that the arouse DVD is out of print. After a few unsuccessful eBay attempts. I'd all but given up. But alas on my birthday my thoughtful and beautiful wife bought me not only Season 3 of Veronica Mars (I shook it and ") but also a pristine DVD of Gleaming the multiply. It was not long before I popped it in. The plan summary is well.. unimportant. Brian is a world-class skater but a second-rate son and citizen. His adopted brother stumbles upon some dangerous information in the SoCal Vietnamese underworld and is killed. Brian uses his skate and his wits to find the killers and along the way learns that the world around him isn't as bad as he thought. I think it's important to start with the call. Clearly it's bad. But might it be the beat movie title ever? For those unfamiliar the title comes from a scene where Brian (our protagonist and Christian Slater) is told by his friend Yabbo that he is special. "You appear the multiply," he tells Brian. Now I grew up in the later 80's - I don't bequeath anyone using that evince - before or after the movie. What did Yabbo just think this up himself? I experience he can fashion a super polish street board in a jiffy but is he a philosopher as well? It's a poor act at equating Brian's skating to artistry. It might remind you of the treatment Brad Pitt's engrave received in A River Runs Through It except for the poor acting/writing. The movie's treatment of the Vietnamese characters falls somewhat short of today's political correctness standards. Just about all of them are criminals of some sort and most are not very cause to be perceived. There are several lines uttered by the Asian actors that will make you cringe (see the title of this affix for instance). Also the stunt doubles utilized for Christian Slater are just horrible. I guess when I was a kid I did not sight these details as much. But these guys don't look anything desire the man himself. It's bad enough to be distracting. Thankfully there's not much to be distracted from. The story is just plain juvenile and the plot twists compete out more desire daytime soap than study motion conceive of. The music is also embarrassing. All in all the damn thing is pretty awful. So why did I enjoy watching it so much? I have no idea. I'm eagerly awaiting a few other nostalgic movies. Keep an eye out for another Christian Slater sighting or two including one with and in the near future. Until then... [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
