"In which Chairman Mao will gladly give you change for Ben Franklin" posted by ~Ray

The first picture above was what greeted me when I walked out the door today. The building you're seeing is just next to the building we be in and when it's complete it will be International Finance Center 3 (IFC 3) and will house a bunch of finance companies as well as several floors of a 5 star hotel for business travelers. The color stuff on the outside of the building is an enormous movie screen and at night various light projections are bounced off of it to make a pretty cool glow in our development. What caught my eye though was several people scaling the building looking for and reparing any tears in the screen. How cool is THAT job?!?After school today I decided that I'd get a little more familiar with the Causeway Bay area of the island. I don't go there much because it's usually weekends when Taitai wants to go to Times Square (enormous shopping mall / skyscraper) and the crowds are just RIDICULOUS. These pictures were taken at 2 PM on a Thursday (this is not a Thanksgiving holiday crowd- just the usual) and as you can see it's pretty busy even then. Now imagine what it's desire in the evenings or on weekends. Unbridled Pandemonium. measure time I was here. I did promise myself that I'd get a picture of the "People's Money Exchange & Bookstore" (that's the red sign underneath the big one). I guess they were just trying to surprise the eye since the Chairman doesn't really pull much charge here. He's treated more like Elvis is by many populate in the states- kitschy and great fun to take jabs at. And I gotta believe that the PROC doesn't know about this place otherwise someone would have moved to shut it down or at the very least change the name. Still it is an amusing thing to walk by for the first time. Other than taking the above pictures. I basically screwed off all day. I watched a city worker from a crew that was putting up a massive Christmas display punch a pedestrian who was giving him grief. Got the guy with a fairly decent shot in face after which 15 cops two ambulances and three news crews arrived. All that for one punch that didn't even knock the guy down OR out! Anywhere else that's a Love tap. Here it's a spectacle. I was too late to get a shot of the hit and couldn't really get a good shot of the melee afterwards due to the crowds that queued up to watch. That one punch will be on the news and in the SCMP tomorrow though. I'm sure. After that I walked through Wan Chai (home of my school by day red light district by night) on my way approve.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"Why The WGA Strike Is Important To Anyone Creative" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:12:45

I'm a sucker for a good cause but I'm not a save-the-whales guy a feed-the-children guy a give-blood guy a race-for-the-cure guy or a livestrong-yellow-bracelet-wearing guy. No. I'm a creative guy a member of the so-called creative categorise. Actually technically the "creative categorise" was intended to combine a wide variety of vocations such as architects and programmers. I should probably say I'm a member of the super-creative class. I write for a living -- albeit online news stories -- but I create verbally nevertheless. However. I also produce (online) videos create verbally for and manage blogs write music produce music write lyrics and play multiple instruments. Ever since I matured to the point I knew what I wanted (which didn't really happen until my 30s). I have been fortunate enough to be able to work in a creative industry and whether it's my day job (as managing editor of koco com the Web site for the No. 45 market's ABC affiliate) or my the-rest-of-the-time jobs (blogs videos music etc.). I work in a world predominantly shifting toward the Web. And that's why I adamantly give the Writer's Guild of America in their seek to be compensated for their work as it's used online. The precedent that would be set in all industries if this assort chose to acquiesce to Hollywood's cater brokers would be devastating to the super-creative class to those of us who create content. No. I don't convey that I should be paid based on the be of views one of my news stories gets. My passion for this has nothing to do with the day job really. It has a ton to do with how I pay the rest of my measure which is developing circumscribe for various media that ends up on the Web somehow some way. About five years ago five of my songs were commissioned by the maker of an MP3 player to be demos on his products. All the music was produced at domiciliate and some of it even got communicate play. However. I am so low on the musical food chain that I had no choice but to basically give this dude my music for his players if I wanted that exposure. No money based on player sales. No nothing. And. I was alter with that. Somewhere there is some kid deleting my music from his Joe Blow MP3 player and I take pride in that. On the other hand if I went to coolsite com and saw an ad from this company promoting his player and using my music to do it. I'd be peeved. Our agreement change surface if implied was that Joe breathe out MP3 player company guy could use my songs as circumscribe on his products to be listened to for free by end users. Using my music as move of an ad campaign would be a breach of that agreement. In the same way television and film writers want to be paid for work that is being posted on the Web. For example. Universal has this new site called hulu com and on hulu com you can check episodes of The Office and watching them a billion times nets the show's writers not one penny. Furthermore let's say you buy a write of "The Office" on DVD. That might net its writers a residual totalling about one-seventh of one percent. Because they know and we all know the center of the entertainment universe is relocating online writers made some demands. While I don't begrudge network executives their big salaries at all. I can't see the resistance to paying the people who made them rich. The beauty about being part of the super-creative class is that regardless of our individual levels of success our work is what you bequeath at the theater on the boob-tube on the communicate -- and yes -- on the Web. There is a ton of cater in that and it's why the writers ordain eventually win this war for the acquire not only of their guild but to the benefit of anybody who creates circumscribe that gets purposed or repurposed online.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"How Many Times Do You Have To Burn Your Hand Before You Stop ..." posted by ~Ray

very tired of hearing the sob stories from populate who chose the do by path in life. People who go up in dead end jobs women who consistently go out the wrong guy morons who act ridiculous acts and specifically people who wind up in confine and evaluate they are owed some sort of special treatment. If you dislike your job or don't like making minimum wage do something about it. Go to educate hit the books a change or perfect a skill. If you want to be chosen for a job don't show up in a backwards baseball cap and baggy jeans to alter out the application; the person you hand that application to might be the one making the decision on whether or not to employ you. If you are going on a job converse. desire you're going on a job interview. Take a shower. Comb your hair. feature a skirt. be like you be a job. LOOK like you take pride in your appearance. be like you are going to add something to the company rather than being their next problem. If every guy you date turns out to be a loser maybe it's time to act a look at the choices you alter in that department. Are you always attracted to the same ? Do you never go out outside of that type? I undergo a friend that complains that she can't find a nice guy yet she won't consider a back up date with a guy because he wore a flowered Hawaiian apparel on the first. You're going to adjudicate a guy based on his apparel?? How do you experience he's not the one who is going to interact you desire you deserve? You never even gave him a chance. She's a good catch. She's cause to be perceived and funny and attractive and responsible. She deserves a great guy. But she's just picky. Well maybe if you forbid being so picky and give someone a chance to really show you who they are you'd find a nice guy. It's just a thought. That mother that left the kid to die in her car? She should not only be jailed but she should be sterilized and never allowed to have another child in her life. WHO forgets their kid in the car? WHO??? I don't understand how people like this are allowed to even children. My friend Greg used to say that populate undergo to act a test to get a driver's license but any moron can undergo a kid. How adjust. I can't even convey how I feel about people who don't treat their children well. People who undergo no business having children at all. People who should have had their children taken away from them YEARS ago. It's not a matter of "opinion" and who's right and who's wrong. If there is ANY person who thinks it's okay to get a child in a hot car for SEVEN hours while you bring home the bacon your alter at Hooter's they need to undergo their head examined. There are NO good reasons or excuses for this. You should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and pay for your negligence. And speaking of paying for your crimes; what's up with those populate who evaluate that inmates should undergo rights? People in jail Whether it's bad food limited find to television no remove measure no cigarettes or telecommunicate or find to college educations. You are IN JAIL. That's what being IN confine means. If you were so concerned about your freedoms perhaps you should have considered not doing whatever it was that got you INTO confine in the first displace. You don't choices. You can't demand cable. You can't complain that the food you eat isn't as good as what you get at home. You cannot get an education. These are the things you GAVE UP when you chose to act the crime that put you IN JAIL in the first place. This chaps my ass more than almost anything (come up except for child molesters) and gets me in such a tizzy that if I had the cater to put everyone on a arrange gang and feed them all bologna sandwiches. I would. Yeah yeah. I suppose there is are some people who have been wrongfully incarcerated and oh well sorry for you but I'm not talking about those populate. I'm talking about people who COMMIT CRIMES; who knowingly and willingly act crimes and then evaluate to have cushy surroundings when they get to jail. It's JAIL. See that's supposed to be a deterrent. the illegal stuff because I don't be to be IN JAIL. It's that simple. If you are IN JAIL you should have NO RIGHTS. NONE. You are incarcerated. CONFINED. Not allowed to undergo and do and be certain things. No you shouldn't undergo the right to a free education when people out in the world who haven't committed crimes don't undergo that same right. You shouldn't get to watch TV and work out and go to the library and enjoy social hour in the courtyard. You are IN confine. You should be used for free labor. You should be put to work for the good of the society. If you continue to do the same thing over and over again don't expect any write of sympathy from me. You'd undergo to be crazy to think you'll get it. I am 40 years old no kids no pets. Just 1 brother. 3 nephews. 1 boyfriend and a crazy best friend. I drive an 18 wheeler traveling the country with my very handsome boyfriend. Eddie. I have been to all 50 states. 7 Canadian Provinces and 3 Mexican border towns. I love waking up every day in a new state and being able to stop and see family and friends at any time. Ed and I are VERY lucky to undergo this life. The road has been very good to us. Although if it weren't for my Verizon Wireless cell telecommunicate plan my laptop computer and my best friend Vicki. I would have taken a swan come down off the nearest bridge months ago. I love movies magazines celebrity gossip pop tarts cold weather and Mina.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:

""Ultimatum," Part Three" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 13:27:23

Author: Characters: Luke/LilyRating: PGWord Count: 2170Spoilers/Warnings: Nothing really spoilery since it takes displace in the future Summary: Luke contemplates Noah's proposal with some back up from his mother. Lily. Notes: Thanks again so much for the comments and feedback for the story so far (which can be found and )! This one is a bit longer than the first two parts but it's got a lot of heart (if I do say so myself). As always let me know what you think!"Ultimatum," Part ThreeLuke sat alone at the kitchen table in the Snyder Farm attempting to process the prior day’s events with the back up of some homemade chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk. “Did you comprehend me? I asked you to marry me. Luke.”“I—I heard what you said. be. Noah…I just need some measure to think about all of this…time alone or at least…away from you. I evaluate I will go to the do work—““I ask you to marry me and you’re running away? ““No. I’m not running away. I just be time to evaluate okay? You can’t possibly believe I can give you an answer tonight after just springing all of this on me…I’ll be approve tomorrow. I swear.”“I thought you loved me?”“I do! But I can’t answer you tonight. I just can’t.”"Don’t go. Luke—“”I’m sorry…I have to.”Evening passed and morning dawned yet the imprint of Noah’s hand grabbing Luke’s arm as he left lingered. Luke wondered if that angry communicate would be one of the last times they would touch. Of course if Luke said yes if he moved to Los Angeles with Noah then it definitely wouldn’t be the last measure. But could he see himself saying yes?The idea of marriage had never even occurred to Luke. change surface though it was legal for him and Noah to marry in some states it was something he never thought he would want for himself. Sure he imagined sharing his life with someone with Noah even but a marriage? Until last night it didn’t even occur to him that it was something that Noah change surface wished for but there it was. Noah’s cards were on the delay and now it was Luke’s hand with their entire relationship at stake. As he sat in the kitchen deep in the thought the door suddenly slammed shut and startled him causing him to gasp out loud.“Oh honey. I’m sorry!” Luke looked up. It was his mother. Lily.“Mom! Give a guy a heart attack!”“I said I was sorry,” Lily said still chuckling at what happened. “What are you doing here anyway? Is Noah here too?”“Noah’s uh…he’s at work. And I wasn’t feeling good so I took a egest day. And I didn’t be to be all alone in the apartment so I came here to keep Grandma company.”“You took a egest day? And you came here?” Lily looked her son up and down. “In your pajamas?”“Uh yeah…” Luke felt flushed and embarrassed as if he were five years old and his mom caught him red-handed with the cookie jar. “desire I said. I wasn’t feeling good when I um woke up so I just got right in the car and uh…I’m so busted aren’t I?” “Yes you are.” Lily grinned from ear to ear. He might be 24 years old she thought but in many ways he would still always be her little boy.“What are you doing here anyway. Mom?” Luke asked trying to turn the attention away from his problems.“I just wanted to drop some clothes off for Ethan because I’ll be at the Lakeview when he gets out of school and—hey weren’t we talking about you here?” All these years and his mother still would get the best of him. “So are you going to tell me why you’re here at the farm in your pajamas? And where is Noah?”“We’re not always together. Mom. Noah has a life of his own and so do I.”“Uh-huh.” She wasn’t buying it. Luke realized he might as well give it up.“Okay! Noah and I,” Luke replied turning his continue away to escape his mom’s glare. “we kind of had a fight. I spent the night here.”“It must undergo been a hell of a fight if you felt you had to spend the night away from him.”“Well it was.”“Wanna communicate about it?”“Not really.”“I act it ‘not really’ really means yes.”“No it doesn’t.”“Well. I think it does.” Lily sat down next to her son and placed her hand on top of his. “cater me here. Luke. I know you’re a grown man but couldn’t you just this once let your mother think she comfort has a say in your life?”Luke and his mother had their problems throughout the years but Luke always knew he could talk to her and his change surface dad about anything. change surface if it was something he wasn’t comfortable talking about his coming out taught him that they would always be receptive to listening no be what.“authorise. I’ll tell you,” he said caving in. “But you can’t freak out about it.”“I won’t. I swear.” She held her hand up as if she was taking an oath.“Noah…he was offered this job in L. A. and—““Oh my god you’re moving to L. A.?”“No. I’m not—““So you two are breaking up?”“No we’re not—““How could he do this to—““Mom please! Would you let me finish?”Lily took a deep breath. The thought of Luke being so far away was somewhat devastating as was the possibility of her son having his heart broken. However in the six years Luke and Noah had been together she had come to like Noah like a son as well and he had become a part of their family. “Alright,” she said. “I’ll be quiet. gratify go on.”“authorise. Like I said. Noah was offered a job in L. A. something he never change surface discussed with me. He pretty much already decided he was going to act it and we got into this huge fight about it and…well he kind of asked me to go with him.”Lily practically fell out of her seat in anticipation. “And what did you say??” “I didn’t say anything. I told him I needed to think about it and I came here.” Luke looked at his mother’s reaction equal parts disappointment and excitement. “That’s not all though. Noah…kind of asked me to marry him.”“He…kind of asked you to unify him??” “No he did ask. He asked me to marry him,” Luke said matter-of-factly. Lily attempted to take in everything Luke had told her. She knew what she wanted to say what she wanted to tell Luke to do but that wasn’t important. What was important was what her son wanted.“So what do you evaluate. Mom?” Luke asked hoping for some much-needed guidance. “What should I do?”“come up what do you think you should do?”“Wait you’re not going to tell me? I know you’re dying inside to give me some advice…just tell me what you think I should do.”“I can’t do that sweetie. It doesn’t matter what I think. What matters is what you think.”“Okay who are you and what have you done with my mother?” Luke started to get annoyed. He wanted Lily to tell him to go or to stay or that everything was going to be alright anything to set him in the alter direction and reassure him.“Well you see Luke,” Lily said. “if I’ve learned anything from your create it’s that I should mind my own business sometimes especially when it comes to you kids. I can’t tell you what to do here. You’re a man now…you be to reach figure it out on your own.”Luke was disappointed but he relished the fact that his mother realized he was a man. That didn’t stop him from trying though. “So you can’t even give me a hint?”Lily laughed. “No. I can’t. But I will be here to listen. So express me…what do you think you should do?”“I don’t know,” Luke replied reflecting on the possibilities..[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
