In plain English. Beauchamp could likely release some or all of this documentation if he desired to do so. The Army cannot release the information the magazine has asked for without his permission as a matter of federal privacy laws. This again calls into question the Army’s handling of this affair in a big way. It’s bad enough that the Army hasn’t been willing to show any transparency with regard to its probe into this. It’s worse still that someone — apparently an Army official — is leaking some of the probe docs to Drudge likely as part of an effort to get back at “The Army” is a tremendously large organization with varying viewpoints and points of contact. The PAO most directly involved with the overall story. Major Kirk Luedeke came out almost immediately and acknowledged that the leak was in fact an Army leak. Kurtz was following an item that appeared yesterday on Drudge revealing some of the docs from the investigation. At the end of Kurtz’s article comes this concerning Foer said the Army has refused to turn over supporting documents in the case despite a Freedom of Information Act request and then “selectively leaked” material to Drudge. In an e-mail to the magazine yesterday. Army spokesman Maj. Kirk Luedeke said he was “surprised and appalled that this information was leaked” and that the military would investigate. In other words an Army spokesman basically acknowledged here that while they’re not willing to reveal the docs supporting their case to on one hand while carrying out a smear on the other the Central Command FOIA request office has been nothing but courteous responsive and professional when I’ve checked in for status updates and made additions to my original FOIA request which was submitted September 9. to the Centcom FOIA office in Tampa would have provided them with the status of their request a fact Foer and Sargent either did not know or chose not to reveal. It is again worth mentioning that the documents Franklin Foer has directly asked for such as Beauchamp’s statements could easily be released by Beauchamp himself. The conduct of those soldiers I’ve worked with has been one of utter professionalism not partisanship. "Grain of Truth" The Witcher Short Story Released

is not one that has infiltrated American publishing despite success in Europe. Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story featuring Geralt the main character from the bet as well as the Gothic-Horror themed world he inhabits “Grain of Truth” is now available for download here at Filefront. The story is reprinted from an earlier short story collection and does a good job of setting the scene and the world of up for those of us who have not had the fortune to read either the translated english text from the UK or the native Polish version. Deceptively Simple

I've just returned from a few days at the Chateau Montebello to get together my first anniversary. I conclude so unbelievably chilled out. It's amazing what three days in one of the biggest log cabins with a six sided three story fireplace ordain do for your. I managed to read a whole bunch of stuff as it rained for most of our time there but chilling with my wife on an interior balcony or by a roaring wood blast really takes one towards what is actually important in life. I took the call for this post from Randy Lander's review of this book on the now defunct and much mourned. Doug TenNapel’s Creature Tech is a story about the brilliant Dr. Ong who is working for the US government in a hidden underground base in small-town America. His job is to go through all the boxes in the research facility and sight out what all the unexplained technology does. Their appeal is a large venus-flytrap that swallows them down to the displace levels. He decided this was a good go act when he dropped out of the seminary. The only drink side to his job are the small-town locals. Then the ghost of Dr. Jameson who replaced his left hand with the hand of the demon Hellcat to avoid going to Hell returns to take the real enclose of Turin and unleashes a lay slug that fights with the only competent local (who got the job because of the hiring stipulations) and kills Dr. Ong. Not to worry because the space-slug had this symbiote that attaches itself to Dr. Ong. Meanwhile Dr. Jameson raises himself from the dead and sets a whole clump of demon cats on the loose to distract and dismember the locals while he searches out the giant lay eel he called to Earth many years ago that he plans to resuscitate with the shroud. At the same time Dr. Ong starts a romance with Katie who has a shrivelled up hand and a bum eye has to deal with a perform picnic that doesn’t like his freakish alien chestplate with extra mandible arms as well as come to terms with a violent praying mantis hybrid bodyguard. The praying mantis hybrid gets fired for trying to kill Dr. Ong who got peed on by a cat demon and the mantis gets taken in by some gun-totin’ hillbillies. Oh yeah. Dr. Ong learns kung-fu when the symbiote watches a kung-fu movie and they all end up saving the day so Dr. Ong regains his faith in Christ. Yeah that last bit was sort of weird to me as well. If you think this is a manic description you should try reading the schedule. TenNapel is beat known for Earthworm Jim and a lot of the same hectically beautiful creation seen in that cartoon is also on display in Creature Tech. What I really like is his ability to simply inform characters that shouldn’t really work together into a story that does bring home the bacon to hold itself together. There is a lot of ideas from the full spectrum of ideas mashed together and somehow it remains consistently whole. There are aliens science religion government plots love stories and random gun violence that be like they should all be in separate genres or stories but somehow with all this happening there is an inherent charm and challenge to the characters here. That would be mostly due to his wonderful artwork. TenNapel is able to breathe a lot of life into these characters which isn’t surprising considering his animation background. The characters act for him whether they’re being thrown over tables embarrassed in public or riding a giant electric space eel while trying to undo a small town. But it’s not just the characters that go to life there are a lot of panels that really use silhouette and the color and white format to their fullest. There are a few panels that seem rushed or unfinished to me but for each of those there are these wonderful action panels that accept TenNapel the artist to cut loose and really go for the action of the moment – be it Dr. Ong and color rushing to a graveyard on a motorcycle or some hillbillies shooting cat demons from their transport. What I love about TenNapel’s characters is that they manage to fit their world. There are cartoony characters but the protagonist has a bit of The Spirit about him in that he’s choose of a simplified realistic whereas there are much more representative and abstract characters. While I do think the story works in its own way. I also feel desire I’m reading more of a first draft than a finished product. I like that we’ve got a hit new story in the format it was intended for rather than a collection of individual issues. (Unless someone can correct me on that). The religion feels desire it was an idea that was either the basis for conflict but got overshadowed by the resulting action and therefore feels somewhat tacked on because of how the story developed or it was actually tacked on at some point. It feels really underdeveloped to me and while I can see how it works it doesn’t really bring home the bacon with what is presented and could undergo easily been dropped altogether. This book reminds me of plate age comics written for adults. There is a lot of challenge and.

I can't turn around these past few days without being bombarded with stories about the Super Bug. It's on our local news in our newspapers on the national news.. it's everywhere! From what the media says we're on the verge of an epidemic of rotting flesh amputations and mass casualties. They exaggerate accept me. See over there to the left where I create verbally that I'm a microbiologist? I've been doing this for over twenty years now and this so-called Super Bug is nothing new. It is actually called Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus or MRSA and we've been seeing it for decades. Previously we only saw it as a hospital-acquired infection usually after surgery and what is different now is that it is becoming prevalent in the community. I would say that about 40% of our Staph aureus isolates are resistant to methicillin so it is neither new nor rare. I'm not completely downplaying this: it is a very serious bacterial infection and should not be ignored. You can defend yourself by some very simple measures. The most important thing is to wash your hands. A LOT. Don't share towels and make sure your gym wipes down the equipment. If you get a cut or cut clean it thoroughly put some antibiotic ointment on it and cover it loosely. If you notice it getting red and not healing go to your local clinic and get antibiotics. Yes it is a nasty bug resistant to many antibiotics but one antibiotic it is almost always susceptible to is Bactrim and that's an inexpensive and easy-to-take antibiotic. If you interact it before it gets too bad chances are good you will be just fine and in possession of all your limbs. Just use some common comprehend and again. I can't tell you how many times a media sensation has resulted in a health care dread with a resultant massive change magnitude in our workload at the lab (and I'm sure at other labs throughout the country). First it was anthrax. I understand that the media has a responsibility to let the public know about outbreaks but whenever we comprehend something like that on the news a collective emit goes up at the lab. We know it ordain send our workload through the cover. I think it was a good thing that the media tried to inform the public about MRSA but I wish to hell they didn't have to be so sensationalistic about it. It's not a be of if you get it you'll die! It's a tough bug but it IS treatable and we all bear a certain amount of responsibility to protect ourselves. I anticipate a story about "flesh-eating bacteria" is a little more exciting ("glamorous" would probably be stretching it) than a simple informational story about what it is and how back up handwashing can back up prevent it.
