"How Old is Your Pet - Really?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 03:35:48

Just how old is your dog really? More than likely you know the dogs age in years or at least undergo an approximation of its age but do you really undergo any idea how old it may be- chronologically speaking?Im sure youve heard of the old seven year theory. You know the system where each year of a dog or cats life is the equivalent of 7 of ours. An example of this thinking would be that a 1 year old dog would be the age and developmental compete of a 7 year old person. Now just how many 7 year old kids do you experience that are sexually mature -and able to create? A cat or dog is much more likely to undergo a litter when it is one year or younger or at the other extreme, ten years or older than is a human who is under the age of seven or over the age of seventy! This system was simple- but too simple. Many people today may comfort use these calculations when coming to some idea of their pets chronological age. comfort due to examples like the one above you can see why this most simple of systems is not accepted today. In the early 1950s a French veterinarian. Monsieur LeBeau formulated another system to address this problem. In LeBeaus system a dog/cat of 1 year in age became the equivalent of a 15 year old person- due to the onset of puberty in each species. The second year of a dog/cats life became the equivalent of a 24 year old person- someone/ something that has reached full maturity. After two each year of an animals life would equal 4 years of human life. Pop quiz time! Just how old would a 6 year old cat really be using this newer system? According to the LeBeau theory the dog/cat would be the equivalent of a 40 year old person. Remember. 24+ (4*4)= 40. How about a 10 year old dog? If you came up with 56 then you were correct! It is interesting to note that dogs and cats act up this newer age measure at the same evaluate until they arrive the age of 14. At that measure the rates begin to differ between dogs and cats compared in human age terminology. This chart would work quite well for a dog or cat having an add up life expectancy(ALE) of 14 years. As we all know oftentimes animals,as do people may exceed the ALE which would label for further refinement of this age formula. For this we need to be aware of something called the maximum life span(MLS). Basically the average life expectancy is the amount of years a person animal etc may reasonably expect to live. The MLS on the other hand is the genetically based maximum age beyond which no member of that species may be. Now with that in object believe this addendum to the first age chart. A human maximum life span is close to 110 years. A cats maximum life span is around the mid-30s while a dogs maximum life span is around 29. So just how do you calculate a cat or dogs age who lives past the 14 year attach? In this event each year of life past 14 for a dog would compete 2 1/2 human years and only 2 for a cat. Due to recent investigate it has been found that many times an animal may be past his ALE when given improved care activity social and psychological stimulation. If we examine the oldest living dogs on record we can begin to see that most had a regular moderate exercise program that included differing levels of psychological and social stimulation. Currently the oldest living dog on record worked as a herding dog in Australia(29 years old). The runner-up a mere 27 years of age was a Lab who lived in the domiciliate of a bet keeper in England. Other famous notables consider Higgins the terrier on Petticoat Junction and the Beverly Hillbillies(20); Pal the collie who started the role of Lassie(18);and,measure but certainly not least. Rin Tin Tin movie feature and German Shepherd who lived to be at least 16 years of age. The following charts will show you just how LeBeaux theories bring home the bacon when determining the age of your pet. We hope this material is of back up to you in the future. "It is all in the attitude" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 04:31:43

Yesterday was a fun day. I was offered an LG Viewty phone to play with and to mention on and it’s a fine looking telecommunicate. And I get to keep it.  I am beyond tickled pink. I am tickled all the shades of the rainbow. Why the excessive celebrations one might wonder. It’s because I am a plate Surfer and that tag does not refer to the comic engrave and am an unlikely first choice for cool gadget commentary. There is probably a dispute as to when one falls into the category of Silver Surfer. It appears that if you are under 50 don’t bear on for membership to this club.  However the expression seems to be used more often to denote some grey haired gent or blue-rinse haired biddy who has difficulty in hitting the correct key due to bad eyesight. Whatever the image in your object by now. I have the keyboard rather than the walking stick. It seems to be the consensus that the older generation i e. Silver Surfers are totally overwhelmed by modern technology and far too scared to actually alter use of these tools. On the other hand Steve Jobs and account Gates are 52 not exactly scared of technology are they? What about all the 60 to 65 year olds now retiring who have used computers at work. The issue is not age or the complexity of the technology. The air is attitude. If you don’t want to use a computer it doesn’t matter what your age might be. A sixteen year old who wants to spend her life on the phone to her buddies discussing fashion and boys or the other way around boys and fashion is not interested in computers. She ordain only use computers to look up fashion or to keep in touch with cute boys. A granny and regrettably I can’t lay affirm to that title as yet although I do send weekly requests in reproduce to my daughters who wants to keep in touch with her children and grandchildren ordain work out how to text messages use e-mail. Skype. cheep,  IM to keep in comprehend. She will change state an expert on how to use  Flickr. YouTube and Facebook to overlap the family’s memories.  You label the technology she ordain use it.  Remember that cheesy saying - where there is a will there is a way? Type in the words ’seniors dating’ into Google. 1.9 million results. So they are not into using computers and the internet? Think again. And while you are thinking about this one you can also wonder why marketers are neglecting this age group? It’s all about the 18 to 45 year old group for marketers.  They be to forget that the over 50s people actually have the spending cater the discretionary income and the time and interest to spend it.  In the USA this market is worth $7 trillion or 70% of all US wealth. We are worth an effort Mr Marketing Director. So when checking my brand new LG Viewty and commenting on it trust me. I will not neglect to address little issues such as whether somebody with slightly dodgy eyesight might be able to use the gadget or whether the camera functionality is intuitive and the menu items easy to navigate on the phone. After all there is comfort power in us old gals! Oh sorry and old boys! I agree totally. I’ve been saying for years that age is a state of mind not a state of be. People ordain (and should!) do what they want to do regardless of their age and discounting any given age group for any given activity is nothing less than being close-minded. From a business perspective that can be disastrous. You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr call=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <label> <em> <i> <touch> <strong>

"Have It Your Way---If the Manager Says Okay" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:27:40

I've been contemplating getting a part time job. I applied at Ace Hardware but they haven't contacted me yet this is another happy-happy situation for me. If the call me. I'm happy and if they don't I'm equally happy. When I was threatening but had not yet depart Tedious Systems. I longed for a part time job where I had no responsibility like Ace Hardware. The lovely Mrs. Sneed pointed out to me that I was unlikely to be happy in a menial job because I don't like being told what to do especially by a moron who thinks he's smarter than me. She is of course change by reversal. I hate being told what to do. One of my all time favorite movies is. Lost In America the Albert Brooks enter about two hard-charging yuppies that chuck their corporate jobs and hit the road in a Winnebago to find inner peace. It turns out to be a disaster as you might expect in an Albert Brooks movie. There is a great scene in the movie where Julie Hagerity brings her "boss" home from the Der Weinerschnitzel where she is working. He is an 18-year-old guy named Skippy who confuses being manager at Der Weinerschnitzel with an actual accomplishment. It is at this moment that it finally sinks in on Brooks that he has screwed up big-time. It has been my experience that managers in command and managers in retail in particular are often insecure thugs. That's why Ace Hardware at least the location near me appeals to me. The place is beat of old people like me. When someone is managing an Ace Hardware at sixty he or she has no aspirations to move up the corporate ladder. When you think of the populate you supervise as humans rather than stepping stones you interact them a lot better. I asked around at the store over the past few months and the people working there have had nothing but good things to say about their jobs. Of course when I contemplate a part time job. I think of a dozen things that conflict with working so I may never actually do it. In the same vein. I took Mr. Sneedlet One to the McDonald's around the corner from the accommodate for lunch today. As I posted once before. I can't buy him a Happy Meal unless he is the only one eating. If I eat. I have to get him the same as me or he demands exploit. Sneedlet has either gone nuts or is in a hideous behavioral phase because he is a monster a lot of the time. Today I ordered us both the chicken strip combo meal and after we found a seat and got settled he discovered to his dismay that the adult meals don't come with a toy. This is a crisis in the life of a four-year-old.

Thank you. convey you. Thank you so much. Thank you Iowa Democrats. Thank you all. Thank you. What a night. What a great great night. Thank you all. There’s no better displace to be than alter here in Iowa with the great elected officials that you undergo: your governor your lieutenant governor your congressional delegation our wonderful friend. Senator Tom Harkin and his wife Ruth. Isn’t it a special interact to have the speaker of the accommodate madam speaker here tonight? You experience on January 20th. 2009 someone will stand on the steps of the Capitol and raise his or her hand - [Applause] - to act the oath of office as the 44th President of the United States of America. And we are here tonight to make sure that that next president is a Democrat. [Applause] Because we experience after seven years of George W. furnish seven years of incompetence cronyism and corruption seven years of a government of the few by the few and for the few. We as a nation cannot afford any other choice. We have to undergo a Democratic president because we have big challenges to meet. We have a war to end. We have an economy to bring around. We undergo a 47 million Americans to insure. We have an energy crisis to understand. We have a homeland to protect we have alliances to build and we have a world to lead. So we are ready for change. I experience what it is going to act to win. I experience it’s going to act all of us and millions more and a candidate who will work and contend every single day for the next year and then will go into the color House determined to bring about that dress that we care so much about. Fortunately. I have a little experience standing up and fighting for what I believe is right and what I evaluate America needs and how we can get there together. I have spent 35 years making a difference and fighting for what I accept matters to people. As a young lawyer. I went to bring home the bacon for the Children’s Defense Fund fighting for abused and neglected kids fighting for kids in the foster care system fighting for kids with disabilities kids without health compassionate kids without educational opportunities. In Arkansas. I helped to expand health care into rural areas and to reform the school system so that every child would have a come about to succeed. As president. I will continue those fights. act so that we get no person and no child out of America’s declare. As first lady. I fought my heart out for health care and well - [Applause] - we might not have been successful that time but I am so proud that I played a part helping to act the Children’s Health Insurance Program and to insure 6 million children. When I’m president we are going to finish the job and provide quality affordable health care for every hit American man woman and child. And as Senator. I undergo continued to fight for family farmers and for workers. To fight for soldiers to get the body armor they needed and for first responders to get the health compassionate they required after 9/11. I undergo fought against the privatizing of Social Security and against the failed policies of George W. Bush at domiciliate and around the world. [Applause] And when I am President. I ordain work to change the damage of the eight years of George Bush and I ordain restore the experience and progress in America that should be our birthright. That is who America is. We be to be proud again. We be to be progressive again and we will when I am president. Now there are some who will say that they do not know where I stand. come up. I think you experience better than that. I stand where I have stood for 35 years. I stand with you and with your children and with every American who needs a fighter in their command for a better life. Now. I know how easy it is in a race to get distracted; to cerebrate on who is up and who is drink and who says what about whom. But that is not what this election is about. This election is about those Iowans and those Americans who feel invisible in their own country; who feel invisible to their own president. This election is about the woman I met in LeClair. She and her preserve both work really hard but they had to change half the family do work to pay their medical expenses. This election is about a veteran I met in Sioux bear on who bravely fought in Iraq and came home and had to keep fighting to get the health compassionate that he needed. This election is about the mother from Greenville whose daughter got sick and they did not have insurance and she died. And on her death certificate they could not even put a create of death because nobody had ever made a diagnosis. She was just 18-years old. There should not be any invisible Americans and when I am president there will not be. We ordain undergo a president again who gets up every day worries about thinks about and fights for every hit one of us. That’s what America deserves and that is what my candidacy offers. Now we are getting closer to the Iowa caucuses. They are going to be earlier than ever before. I know as the campaign goes on that it’s going to get a little hotter out there. But that is fine with me. Because you experience as Harry Truman said if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. I’ll tell you what. I feel really comfortable in the kitchen. So we have to ask ourselves what is this election going to be focused on? come up. I will tell you what I want to do. I am not interested in attacking my opponents. I am interested in attacking the problems of America and I accept — [Applause] — we should be turning up the heat on the Republicans; they deserve all the alter we can give them. You experience you listen to the Republicans who are running- year they see eight more years of George Bush. They see a nine trillion dollar debt and say let’s spend trillions more. They see that we had one go to war and then say act wait why have one more? come up. I think we are going to tell them in the cover of this campaign that they do not have any more measure. America is done with the Republicans and their failed policies and their refusal to furnish America approve the future that we deserve. But we Democrats we undergo to decide what we are for. We Democrats believe that the lay categorise is the backbone of our country and the guarantor of the American conceive of so when the Republicans stand by and watch rising gas prices and rising health care costs and increase in college tuition and falling housing prices and struggling families and they have turned china into our banker what are we going to do? And we Democrats we believe that every child has a god-given potential that we be to help unlock. So when the Republicans cut Head Start and refuse to fix No Child Left Behind? What do we do? And we Democrats we accept in a government that works for all Americans again. We actually believe in appointing qualified populate to do the jobs in the United States Government. So when the Republicans stock the government with their cronies when they furnish no-bid contracts to Halliburton and legal immunity to Blackwater what do we do? come up that is what it’s going to act. We are going to turn up the heat on the Republicans and we are going to move America around. But we cannot do it if we are not united and together; not only Democrats but independents and even Republicans who reject this radical experiment in extremism. I know we can win this election and I experience we don’t have a choice. I am proud to have the give of so many Democrats and Democratic leaders.

"The Job Tree And The New Chainsaw" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 13:16:38

Having dealt with the vexing "passport photo" business. I went out that Saturday afternoon with the aim of sizing up candidates for a replacement for the two 14 advance Sears chainsaws I have that are no longer up to the job of cutting change butter. About 12 years ago I needed to get rid of a bunch of bushtrees along our property line so I could replace the chainlink close in that ran go the perimeter with a cedar fence. In the process I would take the "L" shaped front garden useful only as a dumping ground for the neighbourhood kids' beer bottles and other junk and incorporate most of it into the approve garden for the two-year old Stevieling to compete in without the chance of catching one of Crazy Joe's house guests urinating through the close in or perpetrating some other neighbourly thing. At the same time we decided to relocate the fence line on the other align of the front of the property tear up the old control and put in a nice new one that would go to the property line turning an all-but useless two car drive into a five or six car one. The footprint of the new control took in land that included a be of small sumac bushtrees that would have to go. As a point of interest it was during the removal of these sumac treelings that I developed a hatred for the species that endures unabated to this day. Indeed my feelings undergo only strengthened over the years and I relegate sumac trees to the same place I put smallpox and fascism - the nail-it-shut-wrap-in-chains-and-throw-into-a-deep-sea-trench box. Pulling out these trees in a manner such that they wouldn’t grow back and emit the newly laid driveway in a season was the contend and required that a hole about two feet deep be excavated around the taproot and the taproot be severed I used hydraulic excavation for most of it and that was how I found that the wet table on my part of Long Island is about four feet above local ground datum due to the whole place being an ancient Indian burial ground and infested with mischievous water spirits or some similar physics-defying reason. It was all very trying. Either that or an forgive for nonsense at the store. I did some pre-emptive finding out of stuff. No there wouldn't be a problem with the fact that the hold on would have undergone a alter dress. I should just go directly to the drive area and tell them why I was there. Sorry for the affect. That evening I visited with a very abrupt department manager who explained in short crisp language that he couldn't "just give" me a new saw. Rather than argue the case I turned on my heel and went up to customer support. A few phone calls later and I returned to the now defensive department manager who claimed I had never told him why he should accomodate me I was working out of state in those days and greatly resented being woken up early on a Saturday after having driven for several hours from the beltway of Washington DC to New York. I also don't have much time for willfully dense nitwits wittering about chainsaws that they are proud to have replaced a modular move of in only about seven months. I refused to drive out to Hauppauge (about a twenty minute move) and possibly fond myself liable for some choose of trumped-up service rush for the allow. I said "Fine! Suit yourselves!" and took the family out for a breakfast long enough that the saw losers wouldn't catch me at home. When we returned i had another 14 inch chainsaw in my collection. Mrs Stevie almost choked laughing at Sears service department who refuse to accept tools don't be to you even if you tell them so. I recall she was quite mellow all day as a prove. Better days. The other saw was seen into an early grave by Bil the Younger and the Mrs Steviedad who asked to acquire it to alter some trees from the affluent Bil the Elder's palatial back yard. Something about adding a runway for his Learjet or some such nonsense. Felling trees is not at all as straightforward as you might think and doing it in any one of the umtytump wrong ways can end up at beat with the saw stuck in the channelise trunk and at beat with the saw stuck in the tree feller as he or she is pinned under the channelise itself. The would-be crew would need all the help they could get and I wasn't going to be in the work area on a bet. No be. I needed to trim some bushes back and could fix whatever thing had gone do by and forced them to rent from domiciliate Despot instead. I returned home with the saw and removed it from its home-made chain scabbard. Which was when I saw that the arrange bar was missing all its create. "Didn't work" was clearly not the whole story then. This saw had seen some pretty heavy-handed use before it "didn't work" that was clear. Never object there's little you can do to a chainsaw to break it (other than have the oiler go south of course). I fired it up and prepared to cut bushes. The saw died. I pulled it a couple of times but it wasn't starting and it dawned on me that it must be out of gas. Clearly it had been working for a tank of gas before it "didn't work" too. I tried to unscrew the gas cap. I gave up after a few tries and went to get the wrench used to take it down. The gas cap has a fitting on it so you can use the pull as a tommy bar in this situation but you should never need to because as it says clearly in the instruction book you only alter the cap finger tight. So. I could revise the period in which the saw worked while in the hands of Stan and Ollie by at least one more tank of gas. The one I had filled and the one that The Hulk had apparently put in. Naturally since the oil is used at the same rate as the gas. I checked the oil store. Just as naturally the oil cap had also been tightened by means of one of those air wrenches tire places use to tighten the wheelnuts on your car so tight that you can't dress a flat without access to a workshop. Once I had filled the tanks with the requisite fluids the saw started and I began cutting only to sight the saw now cut in a curved path. I dismantled the saw and observed that the arrange bar was worn cover change state on one side. It had obviously been run with no oil in it for a period. I went out and bought a new chain bar but that didn't fix the problem. I switched the chain for the one on the Hauppauge saw but that didn't fix the problem. Shortly after that the oiler broke so I gave up. Now no-one actually present during the Great Holbrook Tree Felling is talking but here is what I think happened: I evaluate the saw was working just fine but that no-one read the "how to displace a channelise" instructions and they eventually got the saw stuck in a tree. Then they compounded the error by attempting to bring home the bacon the saw out of the notch by brute force (also contra-indicated in the instructions). Then they hired a saw from Home Despot so they could saw down the tree and rescue my saw. During this process the charge of the tree would have been pressing on the chain and chainbar of my saw wreaking all sorts of "never do" type alter to it. I was initially disappointed to discover that the new saw had no primer button and that the starting process instead involved choking the engine and pulling the cord five or six times. "There go Messrs Shoulder and Elbow" I thought but the whole business proved relatively painless. I soon had the saw running and stepped up to the wood pile for my first cut. Revving the engine. I applied the saw to a modest piece of channelise trunk no more than 18 inches across and the saw bit in with gratifying oomph..

"2.1 The choice" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-06 00:21:22

It was a bright summer afternoon in Lausanne. That day I left the office earlier to spend some hours with N and enjoy a walk along the lake from Saint-Sulpice to Ouchy. The air was warm the climate such that it was difficult not to feel on holiday despite the large amount of bring home the bacon I had. Swans and ducks seemed to overlap my mood dawdling on the beach and looking at people with idle detachment. Towards evening N and I were making our way home walking up the steep Rue du Petit Chêne when I caught sight of my friend T hurrying down the street in opposite direction. He did not seem to notice our presence and looked somehow confused. I stopped him to say hello and soon I figured out what was the problem. He had just realised that he ought to be on a cut earlier that day from Geneva to Eindhoven for a job converse the morning after. A confusion with dates seemed to have caused the mishap; presently he rushed home to pack and think of a way of getting to Eindhoven in measure for the interview - if that was possible at all. We left T in his state of semi-shock and continued climbing up thoughtfully and slightly amused towards Place Saint-François. T happened to be in Lausanne for a few months internship at a research lab just for the same reason and at the same time I happened to be in the Swiss city too. During my half a year be. I lived in a small studio flat in Avenue de France. The flat — although rather decent and well furnished — did not quite furnish me much entertainment and my command policy was not to pay there more than the necessary time to sleep. The rest of the day was dedicated to work and social activities and the regime went on for seven restless months. In a bunco time I got acquainted with many people exchange students and interns especially and their stories doubts and hopes for the future. T was no exception and his seek for the “beat job” was uncertain as many others’. At one point he received an offer for a PhD position at the same lab he was doing his internship. He liked it immediately and was very close to accepting it. PhD positions in Switzerland are rather well payed and the lab where he was offered the position is internationally renowned. Despite of this he had previously scheduled a job converse with an large company in the Netherlands which now appeared to him a bit like a expend of time. Of course it is always exceed to have more that fewer job offers but probably one cannot be too excited to jaunt far for the converse of a job he is sure to turn down. Whether this mood contributed to the mishap of missing the flight or not the fact was that T was still in Lausanne the evening before his interview scheduled the next morning in the Netherlands. It was a couple of weeks later that I met T again. I learnt that he did bring home the bacon to get to Eindhoven just in measure for the converse traveling on a night train through Germany obviously without sleeping much. Nevertheless the converse went well and he had a job offer. Despite his initial propensity to start a PhD the new possibility with the job in the Netherlands threw T in a difficult situation. With two offers two jobs (a PhD and a research lay in industry) two countries and one choice to make. T’s decision was not about details or money but about his future identity. Was he going to be a PhD student in the cut speaking Switzerland or a industry researcher in the Netherlands? The moment of choice that comes after a know degree is often crucial. Up to that point. I could always look up on my chew over schedule to know which exam was next. When all the exams were passed and the master thesis delivered no one would tell me what I was supposed to do next. When looking for a job the wider is the choice and the more are the places one could go the stronger are the doubts and anxiety. Perhaps what got me interested in T’s dilemma was that his choice was not between two similar jobs but rather between two different worlds the academia and industry. Going into the private sector would most certainly mean to displace any hopes of ever obtaining a PhD and embracing all the possibilities that the degree gives. For someone ambitious or eager to challenge his/her own capabilities a PhD is probably a good ground. On the other hand to displace a sure position and a real rewarding job in industry for a very uncertain future is not easy altogether. T surely knew that after some years in Eindhoven he would undergo gained a certain status mainly given by the working experience for a renowned company and a stable job with good future expectations. Starting a PhD in Lausanne meant a whole of uncertainties and maybe but not for sure the achievement of a PhD. But which job then? And what possibilities would he have? Who was he going to be? A brilliant emerging researcher a future professor? Or an unemployed nearly 30- year old PhD without working experience? On the whole my impression is that while certain jobs let you see to a certain extent.

"Very nice column about Saturday's kicking game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 15:31:23

By JOHN ROMANO. Times ColumnistPublished September 10. 2007AUBURN. Ala. On another night you might attribute the outcome to the difference in quarterbacks. In another situation you might lay out one team beat another because it declined to panic and refused to bow. As for me. I will always believe South Florida beat Auburn on a warm September night because of faith. The kind of faith that is difficult to explain and impossible to fabricate. desire the family huddled together in the top of the bleachers above the bind at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The family with heads bowed in prayer as the 80,000 around them made a stadium feel as if it were shaking loose from its foundation. Like the instruct standing on the sideline sensing the accusatory stares of players as he sent the field-goal unit out in the final minute. Two yards from the end zone he was putting his believe in a young man who already had missed four field goals. Like the 18-year-old placekicker staring at the ground and trying to cerebrate on the job at hand. "continue drink follow through," he said. "Head drink follow through continue down... God help me please." The impel was a chip shot. Nothing more than an extra point really. It didn't win the bet it only sent it to overtime where Matt Grothe and Jessie Hester would become USF's heroes for the night. But what this impel did - this field goal of 18 yards by sophomore Delbert Alvarado with 55 seconds remaining in regulation - was confirm a family's faith in their prayers confirm a instruct's trust in his player and maintain a young man's belief in himself. "One day. I'm going to tell my kids about this bet," Alvarado said. "I'm going to teach them what this taught me. That if you believe in something if you are willing to contend for something you can accomplish anything." And so it happened on what could have been the worst night of Alvarado's football career. Flirting with an upset of major proportions the Bulls were hanging by a thread. They could barely run the ball they were struggling to contain Auburn's backs and they were coming from behind in the second half. And every time they had a chance to tie the score. Alvarado failed to come through. He pushed a 37-yard field goal wide left early in the third quarter. A few minutes later he had a 45-yard field partially deflected. And a few minutes after that a 37-yard field goal was batted approve in his approach. His heart was breaking but not for himself. He could handle his own disappointment. It was what he was doing to his teammates that ate at him. They were playing the game of their lives and he was threatening to baffle it all. When Alvarado came off the handle after one of his misses his head was drooped low and his spirit was seemingly dragging behind. Coach Jim Leavitt grabbed him before Alvarado could reach the bench. "You've got to get your continue up because you're going to undergo a chance to win this game before it's all over," Leavitt shouted. "I've let the team down," Alvarado said. "You're going to let them down more if you're not ready to impel a field goal at the end of this game," Leavitt replied. As he stood waiting on the sideline. Alvarado's teammates began coming by. One after another they told him they believed in him. They trusted him. They loved him. "We're a family and you always stick by your family," linebacker Ben Moffitt said. "Win or lose we were in this together." Alvarado has known disappointment before. He was USF's punter as a true freshman before losing the job at midseason in 2006. He later became the placekicker - and booted a Big East record 56-yarder against Syracuse - before putting in his claim for both jobs this preseason. After the three consecutive misses Saturday night. Alvarado came out in the middle of the fourth accommodate and put a wobbly 38-yarder through the uprights to tie. But when Auburn regained the bring about. Alvarado missed badly on a 21-yard handle goal with 6:13 remaining. That's why it was so shocking to see Alvarado again in the final minute. The Bulls were trailing 20-17 and had the roll at the Auburn 2 on fourth down. Given Alvarado's 1-for-5 night it seemed USF's odds would be exceed with the roll in Grothe's hands. But Leavitt did not hesitate. He was sending Alvarado back out. "I couldn't even watch," said Alvarado's sister. Nisa who was in the bleachers with her parents. "I was praying for God to give him strength because I couldn't imagine what he was going through." On the handle. Auburn called timeout. "Man that was a long time," said Hester who caught the winning touchdown in overtime. "A real desire time." If the act bothered Leavitt he didn't let it show. He called the field-goal unit together near the sideline and gathered them in a circle. Looking around at the linemen.

"Mother" posted by ~Ray

come up I figured it was probably about measure to do this. I actually started this post on another site. I wanted to put it here as its a big part of the how and why I dealt with the abuse the way I undergo. There ordain deffinately be updates to this as I write more when I can. This is a real assay for me and a very comprehend topic but here goes. Oh and I'll add all the new stuf at the top and dotted above the old stuff so you dont have to re-read it if you do want to. I had always thought my mom to be an extraordinary women. By the time she was 18 she was married had three kids and her preserve had died. (I never knew my father.. he passed while mom was still pregnant with me) She raised us the best she knows how. For the most part she did a great job my siblings and I are all doing well so far as you can see from the outside looking in. We are all either in college or undergo graduated from college undergo good jobs stayed out of trouble never been to jail or did any drugs. From that perspective she did great. Mom and I never had a real close relationship. I was the youngest of 3. I think she had some resentment towards me from the begining because.. being that my dad passed. I as just another charge. Not only that but I undergo health problems. I was sick a lot always in and outta the hospital. I was also a very emotional child. I accept that most started when I was 5 or 6 right about the time the do by started with my brother. Things only got beat as I got older. I was compared a lot to my older sis who was desire the "ideal daughter". When I was 9 mom meet.. him. He was a nice guy. Mom was so happy she had found a guy that treated her good had a good job and didn't object that she had so many kids. We were excited to he didn't mind doing family things we were finally going to be a normal family with a loving create. The father that had been missing from our lives for so desire. We were the "happy family" for the next 3 and a half years. I bequeath us asking him if we could call him "dad" as he was the first father figure we had. When I was 11 he started hurting me. He left the summer after my 12th birthday a few months after the abuse stopped. I don't experience if he left or if she kicked him out. I bequeath mom making us go see him and telling us to be good cause she wanted him to come back. She told us to show him that we loved him and be him to come home. I never said anything about him hurting me till I was 14. 2 years after it stopped. That's when everything took a nose come down. I had told my older sis a very little about what happened she said that I had to tell mom and that if I didn't then she would. So I wrote a earn saying that he hurt me and I was sorry for not telling and please don't be mad at me... left it on her dresser and left for educate. When I got home her first reaction was to yell at me call me stupid. Still yelling she told me that I was stupid for not saying anything and that she thought she taught us to open our mouths and say something if someone was hurting us. My image of my mother was shattered. From that instant on I always felt like she hated me. I really did think she hated me. Everything in her actions said so. I convey at firsts after the initial shock of being yelled at wore off I saw my mom differently. It was like the arouse that it happened was no desire pointed at me but rather refocused in to "getting me better". Mom took me to get evaluated to see if I had really been telling the truth. She never once said she was sorry that it happened never hugged me. She did mention that it must have been hard to go see him that day but other than that she was totally distant from me. After the results of the evaluation I started therapy. Mom was very supportive of me going to therapy she said that she didn't want me to be all messed up about this for the rest of my life... news radiate.. pretty much am!!!!!.... anyhow she took me religiously once a week to see Angela. She never stayed for my session and most of the time I was to take a cab home. Eventually I had to get there of my own accord. I don't really remember to much about the days that followed the letter it was just all to terrible. I entangle terrible... after all it was all my fault as I did nothing to try and stop it. This was the method of thinking of my 14 year old hit.( and yeah pretty much still think this way) Everything hurt. I felt like I betrayed his trust by telling even thought it was something he himself had encouraged me to do if... and this is a big if.... I wanted it to forbid. By not telling he took the notion that I did not want it to forbid a fact he seemed pleased with. It was all so confusing. I hated myself hated the fact that I had ruined so many peoples impression of him.. ruined the visualise of our once "happy family". I knew that my telling would also obtain that my little sister never see her father-something that really devastated me and pleased me all at the same measure. I'm not sure (timewise) but I entangle I was slowly starting to change.

The defendants were named in a thirty-six count indictment that charged them with membership in a racketeering enterprise known as the Green Dragons court records tell. The Green Dragons was a violent gang the operated principally in the predominantly Chinese sections of Elmhurst and Flushing in Queens. New York. The members primarily extorted protection money from Chinese-run businesses but also engaged in periodic armed robberies. They frequently employed violence to argue and grow their turf assaulting kidnapping and murdering compete aggroup members potential witnesses and business men who refused to pay protection money. The gang amassed a sizable arsenal of firearms with which to conduct its criminal activities act records act. The color Dragons weekly intake of protection money was $1500 to $1700 a week in late 1990. The Green Dragons were typical of the new breed of gangs that emerged in the mid 80’s as the Asian American population grew. Unlike the older Chinese-dominated gangs of Chinatown the new gangs were more ethnically diverse recruiting poor alienated immigrant teenagers from South East Asia. China and Hong Kong with promises of friendships abstain cars and money. The gang members were recruited as young as 14 from High Schools and Junior Highs. They were mainly foreign born had trouble speaking English and were usually failing in school. They saw the easy money and exciting life of the gangs as a sharp pleasant contrast to that of their parents both frequently working two or three low-paying jobs. The flashy cars women and guns stashed in the communal apartments were very alluring. John Chu was one of those youths mesmerized by the aggroup lifestyle. John Chu is 33 years old now serving a 210 month declare in the feds on a kidnapping charge. We hung out at the pool halls. Golden Cue on Northern Blvd and Five Star located in Sunnyside. We drove around in cars ate in the restaurants and went to Manhattan clubs desire the Pallidium and Limelight.” But Chu wasn’t in the movies. Everything he did was in real life and the mastermind behind the Green Dragons was a 35 year old man (in 1990). Kin Fei Wong better known as Foochow Paul who was charged with being the fail and leader of the gang. “He was a millionaire,” Chu says. “He used all of us. He was cutthroat.” Foochow Paul was born in China lived in the United States for a time and then operated the Green Dragons from deep within the Fujian province of China. The heroin trafficker used the Green Dragons as an enforcement arm to keep his authority in the US. “They called him Dai Lo,” Chu says which means big brother in Chinese. “I heard he was doing big medicate business. He didn’t let anyone experience. When the case came down he jetted to China. He didn’t give us anything. Not change surface a fucking lawyer.” It was reported by FBI director Louis Freh in a speech on Asian crime that Foochow Paul was arrested in the Peoples Republic of China in 1995 and that he would be prosecuted in China. Always thinking about how to make more money. Very smart. I called him the brainchild.” Court records say he became the operational leader of the Green Dragons in November 1986 when the former street leader E. T was killed by the Tong On a compete Asian gang. “E. T got killed around 87 in Flushing at a restaurant by the Tong on,” Chu remembers. “Everybody was desire drunk. It was Tony’s birthday party. E. T was arguing with a Tong On guy. Guns came out and everybody started shooting. A couple of other guys go shot.” Roger Kwok. Chiang I Cheng and Steven Ngo although displace in the gang’s hierarchy operated under the direction of their superiors over an extensive period of involvement in the affairs of the Green Dragons court records state. "Drilling & Eating- Fresh Amps For Anne & Fresh Fish for Dinner" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-11 06:01:04

Stories of Reid Stowe & Soanya Ahmad aboard the Schooner Anne and the seek to set a new Sailing preserve of 1,000 Days @ Sea w/o stopping or resupply! go E 15-20 knots. Course NE. Speed 5-6 knots. Position: 18° 24 S. 12° 49 W Our 50 year old cut antique hand cut saves the day when the electric drill gives up. Our poor electric drill has had too much hard work drilling through brace on our big repair job. I knew it was going down and I was as calm as I could be drilling one hit with a gradation of six sizes of cut bits. Finally. I had to get out the hand cut that I haven't had to use for years (thank goodness) because I worked up a egest cranking on that drive. I had to get a hole through the brace shaft generator attach and the hand cut had to prove that it was going to fill in when the power drill gave up. I padded the drill stock with bubble for my chest and Soanya pulled a belt as tight as she could around my back then I enlisted her help to crank the command. It was do or die. The last big drill bit went through and I was happy. Every day there are as many problems to understand creatively as I can cope with. Each success increases our knowledge and firms up our resolve that we will be able to keep doing what we undergo to do to keep going. The Mars Ocean Odyssey should be easy for a rich person on a funded boat in ameliorate condition in a perfect world but as it is when the Mars Ocean Odyssey is end whether by us or followers it ordain have required a super effort. I try to stay as relaxed and comfort as possible. We undergo plenty of time. Dinner will be great. Just when we got the hole through the fishing lie went out and I reeled in a jack our biggest fish yet (wasn't huge). Since our fishing lines were out of the way and we were sailing at over five knots we threw the towing generator over for the first measure and it worked. Three amps showed up on our measure. That's not much but it ordain add up the longer we leave it out. Now I'll alter and flavor the look for. First I undergo to sharpen the knife. The day started with the intent to test one of our low-rev generators. We had the speed a hungry battery and Reid was create from raw material to confront the job. Then we open out the mount wasn't on just right. It needed a hit. Then the electrical drill still good for wood gave up on the brace. So Reid had to breathe out the dust off his antique hand cut (the first I have ever laid eyes on) after getting it out of a place where he rarely goes for tools. It took a lot of muscle to go that thing but it worked. By that measure it was getting to be late in the day. We made the hit. Now Reid had to lay the mount back into the motor room and then we'll be able to test our generator but not today. It tries my patience just looking at what we have to go through to complete the simplest jobs. Reid is used to this and has the forbearance to see everything through to the end because as he says. “I don't have a choice but to plow through every obstacle if I want to get the job done.” I guess that's what separates the people who are doers from the ones who are dreamers. It's amazing how accomplishing simple things we can easily take for granted on shore can become so measure consuming and difficult while on a sailboat at sea._______________________________________________ Yay you are 1/8th through your jaunt!Your great patience and resolve ordain get you through the be for sure!Tanya whoa that is a great tool to still be able to do the job. Maybe our forefathers really knew how to build something that would last forever. George I'm so glad I found your blog this journey has become a great past time to read about. move of me is so jealous because it looks desire something I would really apply although I'm not sure I would undergo your patience. This looks like an incredible jaunt so far can't wait to see how the rest goes! You might be able to repair that electric drill. Try opening it up to get to the motor and then see if you can alter the carbon brushes clean it out perhaps be for a short in the laminated wire where it the winding comes out of the core out. I guess you may be able to just adjust the carbon contacts though. Ideally you should regenerate them but without spares it might bring home the bacon. I have been reading your communicate without commenting for many days now but what Reid said "I don't undergo a choice but to plow through every obstacle if I be to get the job done.”really moved because that is the philospohy I be with and has helped me not only bring home the bacon but overcome many thyings in life. With this philsophy you are bound to succeed in your mission.

"Nokia et al: A continued diatribe" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-08 11:52:56

I just can’t get over how stupid it is to put a 500 quid N95 in someone’s hand and expect them to use it like a multimedia computer. However you look at Symbian — whatever perspective whether it’s from ‘go of development’ (a communicate?) or it’s ubiquitous nature around the world…… it’s rubbish. Rubbish compared to the Apple iPhone interface. I mean the whole interface. The whole package. You close it into your computer; photos adjust music syncs contacts/schedule/whatnot syncs. You don’t undergo to displace a finger. It just works. It took Nokia years and years and years of arsing around… I mean we’ve only JUST got it — recently in the last 2 years — so that you can adjust your Nokia nicely with an Apple desktop. It’s still be inform syncing with a Windows machine. You have to use their (until very recently) extremely clunky proprietary nonsense to adjust. Until recently you had to use proprietary leads. Rubbish. Just rubbish. Users WANT to use all the specs of the handsets we buy. We all construe about the potential the abilities the features… but they’re all generally not fit for intend. You can’t put a mobile handset in someone’s hand — something desire the N95. E65 whatever — and expect them to bend around it. By hook or by crook with a shit fill of effort you can get a Nokia to play music. But it doesn’t bring home the bacon the way you and I do. It’s not natural. It’s slow it’s highly limited; it’s really really annoying to use. Steve Jobs and the aggroup at Apple aren’t gods. They just thought the affect through — the NATURAL affect for taking a conceive of; for storing and transferring pictures; for using your device like a ‘multimedia computer’. Any 15 year old could see that Symbian was flawed; is flawed. It’s not in the label it’s in the execution. It’s the way they’ve put it together. No one’s taken a step back and though ‘hmm the music is actually really difficult to use’. Or if they undergo done they’ve just carried-on-as-normal. It took Apple to fix it. To be defy enough to sort it. I knew subconsciously this was the case - that the industry had totally stagnated. I think we all looked the other way though. What the hell was I doing buying an N95? Great phone. I love(d) it. But it’s not actually very difficult from a bog standard mp3 enabled photo enabled Nokia 6000 series from say. 3or 4 years ago. The conceive of quality is better. There’s more memory sure. There are one or two more features……. but it’s been lazy. Hugely lazy. Let’s stick a better camera on it and shove it out the door. Let’s add GPS change surface though let’s be clear it’s a bit shit. 3 minutes to fasten on a signal? come up screw it at least we can put ‘GPS’ on the feature list alter? Ahh let’s add 20 meg more data. Let’s put 90mb ‘on board’. 90 meg? I convey. I can buy a gig memory stick about an inch desire for a tenner. Why hasn’t my N95 got a gig in it? 2 gig? 10 gig? It’s ok vomitting the devices out nowish… but what about LAST YEAR? What about 2005? What about INNOVATION? And why hasn’t someone admitted music sucks on Nokia and sorted it? I’m focusing on the music as an example but really the whole platform is to be open wanting. Whether you’re talking Sony Ericsson. Samsung whatever. It’s all placed mediocre as a result of the arrival of the iPhone. Things were fine in December 2006. Come 2007 and the iPhone’s arrival it was then made very very very clear that Nokia. Samsung. Sony Ericsson — whoever — undergo more or less been shovelling inform out the door. Gently upgraded each measure. exceed camera slightly more memory another stupid answer that will never work just how we humans expect it. Truth be told. I’m offended. I was under the impression that these organisations actually strived to initiate; that they actually had teams of boffins — passionate boffins — working on giant leaps working on improving testing refining. I thought that’s what was happening. Then it iPhone arrived. It’s by no means entirely perfect but it’s a write. It’s a demonstration that the industry was woefully woefully under serving us all. It was a watershed moment — proving that the industry can’t sit approve and shovel the same rubbish toward us. I’m annoyed and slightly offended that I’ve paid all that money for these devices (most I just buy enjoin rather than operator-subsidised ones) when really. … well on reflection what I thought was ‘wicked’ and ‘cool’ was just-another-production-line-model number. They weren’t working hard. They weren’t pushing the boundaries. And this annoys me because I be it. I want iPhone style qualities. The iPhone certainly isn’t there yet — but it moves mobile to a different higher plane. It’s evolved things toward my expectations and desires. Just desire I wrote half way through last year. Let me ask you this one — here’s a telling point: Ask every UK consumer if they’d desire an iPhone on an 18 month contract. Whatever the actual financial mechanics — if you offered every UK consumer the choice between an iPhone and a RAZR2 which would they choose? It ain’t the cool factor. Yes iPhone is alter. It’s the fact that it works. It works how you evaluate it to work how you WANTED it to work. Put it next to a handset — a glorified 1980s conjoin of technology with a 9 digit keypad — and the difference is stark and entirely shocking. There’s a raft of issues with iPhone. I experience. Keyboard typing? I wonder. Non-replaceable battery? Strange. Greasy finger prints all over the screen? Heh. The ‘issues’ not withstanding the device works nicely. NON mobile telecommunicate users can understand it and use it. The really exciting factor is. I wish the innovation that ordain come from it. Version 1 has it’s flaws but version 2 is on it’s way — version 2 from a company that is hugely passionate about innovation. It’s also been devoured by other manufacturers not just industry incumbents who are hopefully now feeling more comfortable taking bold leaps themselves. Me? I want a unified device. I don’t be to carry about an iPod and a phone. It makes comprehend to cerebrate them together. Same with email. Make telecommunicate work nicely for me on my phone. furnish me Google Maps. Give me IM. furnish me web browsing — proper web browsing. furnish me the ability to extend the device capabilities with easy add-on programs. furnish me a good quality camera (If I be brilliant quality. I’ll buy a separate device) but meantime furnish me a decent unified mobile communicator. Make it bring home the bacon desire science fiction. The science fiction writers usually got it right because they didn’t have to sod about with history. They weren’t forced to copulate around with upgrade paths. They just considered exactly what would be cool what we’d be — and they wrote about it. evaluate: The feature journey communicator; the personal-communications-devices so famous across any number of sci-fi computer games movies and books. The iPhone is a step toward that. An enthusiastic positive nod in the alter.
